Estonia’s leading ice cream producer, AS Balbiino, started to export its products to Russia.

It sent 5280 litres of frozen yogurt to St. Petersburg in May in order to supply the first to-be-opened Boost juice bar in Russia. Meelis Püvi, the sales director of Balbiino, said that the company has a successful partnership with the juice bar. "Export to Russia is possible because of our team’s successful co-operation with Estonia’s Boost juice bar," Püvi said. Boost juice bar in Germany also uses Estonian-made frozen yogurt in its cocktails.

The managing director of the Boost juice bar in Estonia, Robert Tohver, said that Balbiino produces a specially made low-fat and healthy frozen yogurt containing live bacteria for the juice bar. It is important for the international chain to have a dependable and high-quality supplier such as Balbiino, Tohver said. There are more than 300 Boost juice bars all over the world, selling healthy smoothies and ice cream free from synthetic preservatives and colorings.

Balbiino, a 100% Estonian capital owned and listed company, exports 26% of its production to Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Ireland, Germany, Denmark and Russia. Balbiino started export to Denmark only in February this year, winning a bid by a local firm to produce "Raks", vanilla ice cream with cookies under the client’s private label.

"It is very important for Balbiino to grow the number of export countries. We hope that the Danish will love Balbiino ice cream and we can soon start exporting some another favourite Estonian ice cream to Denmark," Püvi said.

Balbiino employs 300 people, and in addition to producing ice cream it sells other frozen products such as berries, vegetables, meat and fish. Balbiino had a profit of 298,576 euros in 2012, after a loss of 325,459 euros the year before. Its net turnover was 19.6 million euros in 2012. The company also has a production facility in Latvia.
