The Estonian plastic products sector is a thoroughly modern industry that utilizes all major plastic technologies. This sector has 162 small- and medium-sized companies and 3,514 employees. Plastic production makes up 4% of all manufacturing, in terms of employment as well as turnover.
The largest companies are Harjumaa-based pipe producer Pipelife Eesti, Tallinn-based plastic window producer AS Plasto, Tartu-based plastic packaging manufacturer Estiko-Plastar and automotive plastic producer Talent Plastics Tallinn AS, which is active in Tallinn and Tartu.
One of the success stories among Estonian capital-based companies is the Lääne-Virumaa based plastic pipe producer Haka Plast OÜ, which received the “Developing company of the year” award from Enterprise Estonia in 2006 for its extraordinary growth. Harjumaa-based Balteco has grown into a leader in hydromassage bath development and manufacturing in Northern Europe during its 21 years of existence. The company received the “Best design applier” award from Enterprise Estonia in 2010. Balteco was awarded for its outstanding design application which has been recognized over the years by multiple international design awards and notifications.
There are about ten plastic production companies on the second largest island, Hiiumaa. Polyethylene film manufacturer Dagöplast OÜ, owned by a Swede living in Estonia, has four factories on the island and has become one of the leading film manufacturers in the Baltic countries. It exports 80% of its production. In 2011, the average gross salary in this sector was 706.25 euros.
